BRIDGEPORT — Julianne's Wines & Spirits, a package store in Bridgeport's Black Rock neighborhood, has paid an unusually steep $20,000 fine to the state and had its license temporarily suspended over illegal sales to minors.

"Twenty-thousand dollars is a fairly high settlement amount," Kaitlyn Krasselt, communications director for the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, confirmed in a statement. "The age of the minors and quantity of alcohol purchased weighed heavily in this case."

Representatives for Julianne's, 2669 Fairfield Ave., did not respond to requests for comment.

According to case documents from the consumer protection department's liquor control division, staff there received an anonymous complaint on Sept. 23 alleging "Julianne's does not ask for identification and engages in the sale of alcoholic beverages to high school students."

The tipster specified that on Sept. 19 two unnamed 16-year-old males from Monroe purchased liquor there ahead of either a football or volleyball game.
